Wide Toe Box Shoe Reviews

On an ongoing basis we review shoes that align with our mission and values in an effort to guide our customers to the best Correct Toes compatible footwear that is available. We judge the shoes based on how wide their toe box is, how flat the footbed is, the amount that the shoe is allowed to flex with your foot as you step, and the ability to sense the ground through the sole.

Altra – Men’s Mont Blanc BOA

The Mont Blanc BOA from Altra is a lightweight long-distance trail running shoe with a dual-dial BOA Fit System that allows for a truly personalized fit. Built on the Altra “Standard Fit” last, the Mont Blanc BOA provides plenty of room for toe splay during your run. These trail runners are zero-drop, so there’s no heel elevation, but they do have a toe spring in the front. The stack height sits at about 30 mm with plenty of cushioning, so you won’t feel any rocks, sticks, bumps, or cracks in the ground —however, the shoe gives a lot of reaction and a nice pop to your run.

The upper is thin and light, complete with a BOA lacing system that allows you to quickly dial in a perfect fit. You can snug them up for downhill running, then quickly release them for a looser fit on the flats. What stands out most about this shoe is its lightweight and the customized fit capabilities (BOA Fit System) combined into such a technical shoe.

wildling-shoes-zora-RW-01

Unisex Wildling I Zora | Correct Toes Approved

The Zora from Wildling is a terrific all-around casual shoe. The anatomical toe box should fit Correct Toes for most people but might be a little snug for others. Like all Wildlings, the sole is completely flat and incredibly flexible. There’s no heel elevation, toe spring, or extra built-in support features like a raised arch or rigid heel counter. The 3.5 mm thickness outsole is considerably minimal, providing the wearer with a free and barefoot-like feel and function.

The densely-woven mid-cut burgundy upper is also very flexible yet retains excellent water-repelling ability.
Purchasing the Zora from Wildling comes with another thoughtful bonus! Wildling Shoes and Rewilding Europe are supporting the regeneration of biodiversity by generously directing a portion of earnings to flow directly into the joint project in Bulgaria’s Rhodope Mountains.

Lems – Men’s Outlander Waterproof Boot

An excellent addition to Lems catalog, the Outlander is Lems first true all-season boot with a fully waterproof upper. The Outlander also features Lems new sticky rubber outsole that utilizes 4 mm deep lugs and zig-zag grooves to provide ample traction in rain, snow, and mud. As with most Lems, the toe shape is wide and should fit Correct Toes for many people The heel-to-toe drop is 2 mm, and there Is a slight toe spring. The stack height is16 mm, which is pretty sturdy and relatively limiting of proprioception.

The Lems Outlander is one of the more supportive shoes you can find that still allows for a mostly healthy foot posture thanks to its wide toe box. The low drop, moderately thick outsole, and structured nature of the upper make this shoe very accessible for people used to wearing more supportive shoes. However, the Outlander might seem a little stiff and bulky if you’re used to more minimal and flexible shoes.

Men’s Lems I Primal Zen | Correct Toes Approved

If you love the Primal 2 you will love the Primal Zen These sneakers are built on Lems “Original” last (their widest) and are actually wider than the Primal 2. The wide toe box allows toes to splay, and Correct Toes should fit nicely inside for most people. Like its predecessor, the Primal Zen is zero-drop (no heel elevation) with a slight (yet flexible) rounding of the toe. This shoe is also flexible in all directions and doesn’t feature any extra “motion control” or ‘support” features, which allows the foot to move more naturally.

The Primal Zen has a 2 mm thicker outsole that isll mm thick overall (plus an additional 3 mm removable insole) The thicker sole provides a little more structure and stability to the bottom of the shoe, making it an excellent transition shoe. Anyone thinking about trying out and transitioning to more natural footwear would do well to start with the Primal Zen.

barefoot-topanky-be-lenka-nevada-mustard-23617-size-large-v-1

Unisex Be Lenka | Nevada | Correct Toes Approved

It’s boot season! Check out these stylish and foot-healthy boots from Be Lenka. The Nevada has a wide toe box (wider than most barefoot shoes!) that should fit Correct Toes for a majority of feet. There’s no heel elevation or toe spring, so these boots are completely flat. The outsole is remarkably just 4 mm thin but also has substantial lugs for traction. These boots will allow your feet to feel the trail beneath you so you can appropriately adapt to the varying terrain. The Nubuck leather upper has some inital stiffness to it but quickly breaks in to better form-fit to your foot.

The Nevada can work fine on easy trails but really shines as a casual/fashion boot in urban environments. Made for cold, but not SO cold, temperatures, the Be Lenka Nevada is also mostly water resistant. Overall, another smashing success from Be Lenka These are great boots that are also great foot health.

barebarics-revive-white

Barefoot Sneakers Barebarics – Revive – White & Grey

The Revive from Barebarics (partners of Be Lenka) is an excellent example of designing healthy and functional footwear with modern fashion trends. The toe box is generous and won’t cause or worsen bunions, but still felt a little snug when worn with unmodified Correct Toes inside. With the 5th toe spacer trimmed in halt Correct Toes fit much better. This zero-drop sneaker has no heel elevation or toe spring, so your feet stay flat on the ground. \

The Revive is also super flexible in all directions, and the 4 mm outsole allows for great proprioception and ground feel. Sustainable and vegan materials with perfect color stability, breathability and tear resistance were used in the production this shoe.
